Hazard made just his second start of the start season tonight against Atletico in the Champions League after recovering from an ankle injury.
The Belgian made a cameo display in the 4-0 win over Stoke last Saturday.
And while it was a risk to throw Hazard back into the fray in Madrid, the gamble ultimately paid off as he was instrumental in the Blues’ last-gasp 2-1 win.
Hazard proved to be a constant menace and he set up Alvaro Morata for Chelsea’s equaliser.
Michy Batshuayi scored with the last kick of the game to ensure the west London outfit top Group C with maximum points from two games.
And Conte thinks Hazard’s all-round game showed he was ready for the big occasion.
“We must be very happy because Eden Hazard’s performance was amazing and it was the first big game for him after his injury,” Conte said.
“His answer was fantastic and positive.
“He had a great link with Alvaro Morata and I am happy for Michy Batshuayi but also Willian played very well.”
Chelsea, who now have back-to-back group games coming up against Roma, face Manchester City in their next Premier League game on Saturday (5.30pm).
